Empennage - Horizontal Stabilizer

2003-07-20 - Assemble Left Horizontal Stabilizer. (4.0 Hrs).

This was a better day for building, but I did make a few mistakes. Good news, none of yesterday's mistakes will be a problem, except for maybe the short 702 flanges.

Less time spent today, and it looks like a lot more progress. This is because the Horiz Stab skins are entirely cut, bent, and drilled by Van. Actually, Van probably gets Tom or Scott to do that. All I know is that I didn't have to do it. Thanks, guys.
No, Patrica is not working on the HS, she is taking my pizza order. She's even going to pick it up. Hey, now that's helping out.
Error

Ok, here's the mistakes for today: (1) I didn't clamp the 705 rib before drilling the rear spar to the 705 rib. Consequently, the rib slid to the right, and the hole was in the wrong place. I redrilled the hole, but now there are two holes together in 705--not possible to rivet. I probably need to put a back plate on the 705 flange. (2) When match drilling all of the holes on the outer skin, I got my back to the light, so, I missed one of the holes, and drilled another hole through the skin--that's gonna show! Then I started doing it again two minutes later. Apparently, when you get older, you need to wear your reading glasses when drilling holes, and you need more light.
