Wing - Left Fuel Tank

2004-03-31 - Final preparations before Pro Seal - more fuel vent. (2.0 Hrs).

I reamed-out the hole in the anti-rotation bracket a little more, and the bracket fit flat against the access cover. Then I noticed that the nut would not tighten up against the tube because it was too long, so I filed down the end of the nut. Everything fit great, then the rest of the story...

Flaring tool in action.
Crimp the end of the fuel pickup line, and cut groves near the end so it can suck gas. I assume that Van wants this to act as a a coarse screen; otherwise, we'd just leave the end open.
Looks good, but the nut doesn't quite hold the pipe tight. I think I'll file the end of the nut a little. And, while I'm at it, I would like the tube to lay down on the bottom of the tank. So I'm going to bend it just a little.
Error

Oops! The fuel pickup is very weak where the notches are cut, so you are advised not to hold the tube there when you bend it. This is what happens. Also, notice the nut filed down a bit. More on that tomorrow.
