2004-10-21 - Assembling the right aileron. (2.5 Hrs).
Finished assembling the right aileron.
Nose skin deburred and dimpled.
Remember to rivet the nose ribs to the lead pipe (AKA counterweight).
Half-done inside.
Bigger picture of inside done.
Ready for the pop rivets on the bottom.
I ran a countersink over the holes for the pop rivets, since they tend to sit up just a little.
Error
Oops, I free-handed the countersink on the counterweight rivets, and this one got away from me.
When I was all done, there was a bit of a bend to the aileron.
Looks like a good eighth-of-an-inch (actually, not so good).
So, I just bent the aileron at the stiffeners a little. Looks good to me.
Not going to get any closer.
I assembled the aileron in two hours, then I spent another hour installing the stupid brackets. There is no way to get a socket on these two nuts, and don't even think about the bolt, that's close to impossible. Looks like I will need to buy a thin-walled socket to get this right.
